SAFEbuilt is currently seeking an experienced Building and Zoning Technical Coordinator to support their Zoning and Building Operations the Washington DC Area. Youll be a member of our highly respected zoning regulation team with a full complement of resources to support you and exciting projects to keep you challenged. JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Providing technical assistance related to DCMR 11, District of Columbia zoning regulations and related to DCMR 12, DC Construction Codes to customers seeking to operate or expand a child development home or center in the District of Columbia.
Knowledge and experience with DC zoning regulations
Ability to conduct reviews of construction plans for new/existing buildings and renovations for compliance with the DC zoning regulations
Ability to respond to inquiries and to use tact and judgment when applying and explaining zoning regulations and processes, especially under adverse situations
Carry out duties that involve a variety of specialized technical methods and procedures
Ability to innovate and find efficient ways to provide support to staff and customers
Provide proof of certifications and qualifications of the Building and Zoning Technical Coordinator to the Zoning Administrator to obtain verification and acceptance prior to starting work
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning, specifically the regulation of land uses.
Knowledge of land development processes including, zoning regulations, land entitlements, and public infrastructure construction.
Knowledge of the DCRAs Zoning Regulations of 2016 and Title 11 of the DC Municipal Regulations (DCMR) is preferred.
Use professionally accepted techniques and methods to perform complex support work in a fast-paced environment
Must possess the ability to positively interact with other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental agencies, and other clientele.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment.
Good time management, organization, and attention to detail.
Ability to prepare written plan review correspondence and update information into company software programs.
Ability to work on a variety of projects at one time, setting and adjusting priorities
Ability to work in a rapid atmosphere with tight schedules
Strong computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite. Familiarity with online permitting applications preferred.
Experience & Education:
Masters Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture or Engineering or a related Architectural or Engineering discipline or at least (1-5) years of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 12 level District of Columbia government service as related to the Construction field or Urban Planning, Architectural or Engineering fields; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Possess a minimum of three to six months experience providing technical assistance related to DCMR 11, District of Columbia zoning regulations and related to DCMR 12, DC Construction Codes to customers seeking to operate or expand a child development home or center in the District of Columbia.
3+ years Experience in a public sector government office.
